Sprucing up your home, one step at a Time by: Bologna Edited by: Bologna
This week in sprucing up your home, we move to a simple yet commonly used room. Yes the bathroom. The bathroom? You may ask. Well yes! Sims have to go to, and I would hope you let them bathe. Why shouldn't they enjoy the view while they are in there? All Sims need a nice looking bathroom, so that is what we will work on today. And with Kitchen and Bath Stuff soon to come (April 8th), now is the perfect time!
First off, the size. This room, since it is supposed to be a room that is rather small, is one of the most commonly over-sized rooms in the house. A lot of simmers out there will make bathrooms too big. Which is just fine if they like their bathrooms spacey, but if you are trying to save money, I recommend knowing the limit. Size matters based on whether or not it's a full bathroom. If it is just a toilet and sink bathroom, 2x2 or 2x3 should do just fine. If it is a restroom with a shower and tub, you'll need to plan it out and find a good size so that (a.) your sim can still get around and (b.) its not so huge that your sim can run from the door to the toilet and it takes them 10 sim minutes.
When picking out flooring for a bathroom, tile or wood is ideal. There are plenty cheap tiles you can use. Tiles with out distracting patterns help keep this small room attractive. A nice, tan or white tile is a good choice. You'll also need some wall coloring. Whether it's paint or wallpaper, don't be afraid to add some colors. A lot of people will just paint the bathroom walls white and leave it at that but your bathroom could look really nice with some wallpaper. Choose any design you'd like, make sure it goes nicely with the tile and what you think you will be using for furniture.
You now move to "buy mode" where you will pick out your toilet, sink, shower and/or tub. Add whatever you like, but try to keep them all the same basic colors. And don't be afraid to try something new. Maybe if you always have white bathroom stuff, today is the day to have blue bathroom stuff. Also, when putting a sink in, you may just put in the whole sink, but sometimes, putting in a nice counter and then adding a sink to it looks a lot nicer. It also looks cool if you put in double counters and a double wall mirror. Then you can put either two sinks in, or one sink and a nice decoration.
Speaking of decorations, it's always good to add decorations to the bathroom, and lighting! Choose some small, bathroom appropriate paintings and sculptures to add to the bathroom. By saying bathroom appropriate I mean don't get the most expensive paintings and what not for a simple bathroom. Lighting is important as well. Since big windows probably aren't a good idea to use on a bathroom, especially a first-floor one, lights are very important. Pick out a really nice one that goes with the room. If you do decide to put in a window, simple curtains will look really nice, but add a light as well for those night-time potty breaks!
This week there was a lot to talk about in the line of your sims' bathrooms. So check out next week's issue as we move to yet another room in your sims home.
